A conference on geological repositories to be held between 8 and 11 November in Helsinki, Finland, will bring together decision makers from countries advancing programmes for deep geological repositories.
The sixth International Conference on Geological Repositories (ICGR), co-organised by the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency, the Finnish ministry of economy and employment and the Finnish Nuclear Association, will show progress made in developing geological repositories in the last two decades and discuss information sharing and best practices.
The conference will look at challenges encountered at different developmental stages for repository projects and will look for opportunities to improve cooperation in the geological repository life cycle.
A site visit to the underground rock characterisation facility (Onkalo) at Olkiluoto, Finland, is scheduled for 12 November.
